The year my father passed away, Uncle Xu, an old friend of my father’s, held a notebook and asked people one by one to raise money for my father. We received a total of 88,600 CNY. Upon hearing that nearly 1,000 people had donated for my father, Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 8, where my father worked, also granted us a pension of 80,000 CNY. The bureau bought an urn for my father and placed it in the monument. In those days, these amounts of money could be considered huge. My father began working for Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 8 in 1950 and participated in many of world-renowned projects in modern China. He left all his earnings from over 30 years of work for me. At that time, my father entrusted the government to manage his big former residence at No. 78 Zaozilanya, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, China. In 1987, the government expropriated the land where our house stood and compensated my father a sum of money, which he also left for me. These sums of money could be considered as a great fortune in those days. After growing up, I used the money my father left me to establish my company. It is even important for me to fulfill his lifelong ambition. My father was a soldier, and the New China was established with the great contribution of their generation. So I told my son that we have to love our country and contribute back to it. We should be grateful for this job, because it is not only a job, but a great career leading to a promising future, which can help Chinese hospitals and doctors, and in the end benefit patients broadly. How I would love to be able to have meals with my father in a beautiful dress under a crystal lamp. My first doll, first wool coat, first T-strap shoes, first Swiss watch in primary school and first ripple necklace in middle school -- all of these were precious gifts from my father. How I would love to take his hand and walk along the Rhine River and how I would love to tell him the story of my life. He was the one in the world who really treated me as a cherished treasure. Today I bought nice apples and put them in front of my father’s portrait. When I was a child, my father always told me heroic stories, which molded my noble personality. When I was a teenager, my father exposed me to literature, poetry and music, which filled my soul with exquisite taste. All he wanted for me were healthy growth, upright behavior, independent thinking and happy life. These were my father’s last words. Our predecessors expended their utmost efforts and overcame all the difficulties to secure a slim chance of survival for our country. They spent all the efforts only to replace wars with development, savagery with civilization, and poverty with prosperity. Only with such a legacy can a nation rise from adversity. In December 2024, Guangzhou is wonderful with warm sunshine and gentle breeze. Standing at the street corner, my shoulders feel warm. Gloryren is a Sino-German joint venture, which has established cooperation with 186 world-renowned key academic leaders from Europe. Each year we celebrate Christmas, and we have a Christmas advent calendar with 24 windows, each containing a Christmas present. Starting from December 1st, we will open one window of the advent calendar everyday and receive one gift. We will open a total of 24 windows and receive 24 gifts. By the time the last window is opened on December 24th, we will welcome the Christmas. I wish you all a Merry Christmas, good health, happiness and all the best for you and your family.
